How Much SASSA Disability Grant can be increased in 2024?
In South Africa, disability grants are available to South African residents, asylum seekers, refugees, and permanent visa holders aged from 18 to 59 years who have serious impairments preventing them from working.
Currently, the amount of the SASSA Disability Grant is R2180 monthly. This amount was revised in April 2024. Soon after the official announcement, the new payment rates were disbursed to the eligible individuals.

Social Grants Increase in 2024
Here is the list of grants that have been increased recently, along with the accurate payment rates.
- Older Person Grant: This grant is available for individuals over 60 years and meets all the eligibility requirements, including income and assets.
- War Veteran Grant: Veterans who served in uniform are entitled to receive this grant based on their military services. The Government aims to provide sufficient help to veterans, and they will be funded with R2180 in the upcoming month.
- Disability Grant:Â This grant is paid to the individual with confirmed disability that prevents them from doing any sort of work. It is important to note these grants can be accessed by those aged 18 to 59 years. Eligible residents will get around R2180 per month under this program.
- Foster Child Grant: If you are responsible for looking after a foster child, then you are eligible for this grant. Foster parents caring for a dependent child can receive R1 180 monthly for each child.
Moreover, the Government expects the number of recipients enrolled in Social Grants will increase from 18.6 million to 19.6 million by March 2026.

Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana has recently announced that the Grant payment for the financial year 2024/25 will increase by around 5%. Individuals having physical as well as mental disability, which are preventing them from performing regular tasks and which are likely to last for around a year, can apply for the Disability Grant.
We would like to inform you that the Government has publicized that the Disability Grants for eligibles will be further increased by R10 by October 2024. The payment will be directly deposited to the beneficiary’s bank account through electronic deposit, banking institutions and cash.
